Wedding Celebrations
Page Three of Three
Vince and Molly's wedding brought families and friends together from around North America—from Canada to Florida, and California to Maryland. All agreed that this was a marriage of great soulmates, and a heck of a good reason to celebrate!

Matt, in from Ft. Lewis, Washington, meets his aunt's brother-in-law's baby from New Orleans at the rehearsal dinner

Jessie, now of Chicago, was with her friend Ryan of St. Louis at the bride's parent's house

The cousins together again at an Irish pub in Lansing

Bill and Betty, proud mother of the groom

Sarah plots her own wedding strategy with Bill and Betty

Wedding Bells
The church was stately and decorated for the season, the country club was elegant, the weather was wintry, and the newlyweds were bubbly. All the ingredients for a fantastic, memorable wedding.

The happy couple leave the alter as the bridesmaid thinks "I wish this were my wedding day," and the best man realizes "Man, I've lost another single drinking buddy"

Vince and Molly had their own table at the reception, surrounded by family and friends. I think they sat there ten minutes—the rest of the time they were dancing (on air).

Deju Vu All Over Again
Bob toasted his son and new daughter with the same elequence and warmth that he did when he gave the best-man speech at our wedding in 1979

Newlywed Dance
Vince may have swept Molly off her feet, but Molly swept everyone off the floor when it came to dancing. This gal puts the Energizer Bunny to shame

The Parents' Waltz
The happy and proud parents joined their children on the dance floor to embrace the marriage of children and families. The Scots were flowing that night.

Cathy and Bob were ebullient—their glow rivaled that of the Christmas tree
Matt and his mom cut a rug...

...while "Bud"dy Cooter pooped out at the table

We could tell tales about Cooter's ride home in the vomit comet, things like maybe having drunk too much, or how he couldn't open the back seat window or door in time, or about his desire to keep his black suede coat looking nice by keeping it out of the rain (but not out of chunk range)...but why would we want to embarass him?
Laurie, Eric, Crystal, and Sarah were dressed to the nines for the big occassion, and I'd rate them a solid ten as they stand before the snow-flocked tree at the reception

Holiday Afterglow

Betty threw an impromptu spaghetti dinner for her siblings the day after the wedding. We gathered around her tables to share stories of the wedding and make plans for the future.
Cherie and I were finally feeling human again the next afternoon—after pulling an all-nighter of dancing, partying, and driving the boys back to the Detroit airport at five in the morning. We dragged ourselves over to Betty's house to catch a couple of winks in her basement, because, she said, she always keeps her door unlocked and the sofa bed was made up. Well, bleary-eyed and grungy, we drove over to her house and in the pre-dawn dark we tried every blinkin' door knob she had — not a single one budged. I mean, Betty, if you didn't want us to stay there, you coulda just said so! So we hit a Bob Evans for breakfast and some strategizing, and turned in at a nearby Doubletree Hotel for a couple of hours of shut eye and hot showers. Hey, at least they leave the light on!

The next day we found a couple of bums on the streets of Detroit to share our holiday bounty with — oops, them's no bums, that's Mark and Cyndi looming out of the night. OK, better yet, we found a couple of long-time friends to spend the day with...

...and together we prowled the Novi mall and the quaint small-town streets and shops of Northville and Plymouth on a chilly, flurry-filled afternoon. Later that day, we met Bill and Betty in Greektown for hot drinks, flaming cheese appetizers, and a tangy Greek meal at the Pegasus Restaurant.
Greektown in downtown Detroit is a special place for us — it's where we had our first date in November 1976 — and where we returned for dinner with Betty and Bill and with the couple who introduced us 28 years ago to the month.

Oooopa!

Cyndi and Mark are all smiles after winning a few bucks at the Greektown Casino earlier in the evening

Betty and Bill helped pick out the best treats on the menu —they steered us through the maze of lamb and cheese
And we enjoyed a nightcap at the newly opened Hard Rock Cafe downtown, with its memorabilia of Detroit rockers such as Bob Seeger and the Supremes.

Downtown Detroit was decked out in its holiday finery, looking a bit like New York's Rockefeller Center, with a huge Christmas tree and skating rink in the middle of Woodward Avenue
Bill, Cherie, Betty, Mark and Cyndi gather around the spot marking Detroit's Point of Origin, where in 1805 Augustus Woodward marked the city's center and from which the city's streets were laid out like the spokes of a wheel, long before Detroit became the "Motor City"

Detroit is also "Hockey Town," with one of its buildings displaying a Detroit Red Wing. The Rennaissance Center, corporate headquarters of General Motors, is in the background
Whether from Detroit or from Arizona, Cherie and I wish you the happiest of holiday seasons!
