Spreadin' the Love
Page Two of Three

Shelley welcomes Gene into the bosom of the family

The cousins warm up to each other after a long absence. From left, Jessie, Matt, Dustin, Cooter, Dani, Megan, and Kristin, with Katie laying in the laps of love.

Matt and Cherie also got the chance to make up for a long absence. It was the icing on the ice-box pudding cake to have him join us for the holidays.

When we called Jim, the only sibling who didn't make it to Michigan, the phone was passed around the family. Cooter, Matt's Army buddy, got on the phone and the conversation went something like this.
Cooter: Hey, Buster, what's up? It's Cooter.
Jim: Uncomprehending silence
Cooter: You know, your new brother-in-law!
Jim: Stunned silence
Cooter: Hey, man, you know, Brenda's husband
Jim: You-gotta-be-kidding silence
Cooter: Well, man, nice talkin' to ya. Here, I'll turn you over to Brenda
Brenda: Hey, Jim, didn't you get the invitation in the mail?

There's nothing sweeter than the BS'er getting BS'ed ... and the Army, and I guess Wal-Mart, can turn out the best of them.

Let the fun begin!

Dani, Megan, and Jessie don't need beer to have fun ... they
can just imitate their parents

Cooter and Matt hadn't drunk in a year...and rapidly made up for lost time

Kristin stores up for the day she turns 21

Tim finds that Kathy's jokes are funnier when you're drinking

Tim shows that when the libations flow, it brings out his "touchy-feely" side

Yep, that's a heck of a bubble ya got there

Nope, dear, you don't have a bubble butt

Jon's keepin' his distance, thank you very much

The family kicks up its heels

Dani swings Megan around the kitchen ...

... narrowly missing her kick-arse aunts (all together, now, Jane)
Kathy's IQ roughly matches her age — she displays her wit to only a luke-warm audience in the kitchen so decides to take her act on the road

Thanksgiving is a time of sharing

Brenda shares her digital photos with Matt

Justin shares his shoulder with Katie

Cherie shares a drink with Jon

Shelley shares a smile with Jamie

Kristin and Kathy share dental results

Megan and Brenda share a daughter-monther moment

Turkey Time

Cherie takes the turkey out of the oven

Barry gave a heart-felt Thanksgiving prayer, blessing the soldiers among us and causing most of the women around the table to dab at their eyes. For the men it was "Amen...dig In!"

Adults at the big table, kids at the little. We gathered in Shelley's basement to feast on food prepared by the sisters and cousins, and wine made in Barry's backyard still, er, barrel.
The family feasts
on fabulous fixin's

(including Brenda's homemade turkey cookies)

And the kids have the best time of all!

So, did Shelley and her family enjoy having their relatives eat all their food, take over their beds, make messes in the bathrooms, and generally leave a trail of wreckage? Well...the jury's still out

Garret: "Let me think about that for a minute"

Jon: "Have they left yet?"
