Billie's children brought their families together to honor their mother and reaffirm their sibling bonds.
From left, Shelley, Brenda, Cherie, Jim, Kathy, and Jane gathered in Owosso.
The man with an identity crisis: Jim, James, Bub, Buster, JP, and occasionally, SOB. Now he's working on Mr. Clean.
Aunt Jane is surrounded by her nieces and nephew.
|
Jane's family at left: Katie, Barry, Jane, Jason, and their German exchange student Julia. |
Kathy's family: Dani, Kathy, Kristin, and Don | Brenda's family: Brenda, Megan, and Dustin |
Shelley's family: Shelley, Jessie, Garrett, and Jon |
Cherie's family: Cherie and Jamie. |
| |
The family that works and plays together stays together.
Jim and his sisters gather around the dining room table to assemble a picture board commemorating Mom's life. | After a stressful day, the family sat in the hot tub to make bubbles on a cold Michigan night. Jon wins hands down. |
Shelley gingerly puts some food into the oven, favoring her sore back. Katie chuckles at the subtle message the cook signals in her kitchen: when it comes to cooking, "butt out." |

When he was knee-high to a grasshopper, Jim learned the mouse trick from Grandpa E. He continues the family tradition, entertaining kids of all ages with the handerchief mouse that jumps. | Shelley, not to be out done by a stinkin' mouse, sports her very own animal trick: perching a porcupine on her head! |
Buster shares the secret of tying the perfect mouse with Gene Wilder,
who plans to use it in his next movie. Whoa, who's kidding whom? That
ain't Gene, it's Freddy the car salesman! Jim, play your cards right, and
Freddy'll get you a year's supply of auto wax for that shiny pate.
Cherie's sisters get a laugh at her coup de grâce: she swallows the mouse. You'll have to wait until the next day to watch her pull the hanky intact from her... |
Dad lines up to buy an ice cream snack from Garrett the "Good Humor" man. | Garrett and Jessie sit on Santa's lap at the Festival of Trees in Corunna, Michigan. |
| |
The in-laws and outlaws hang out at the watering holes in Owosso
Tim, Jane, and Wayne are delighted to be back under the gray skies and in the bone-chilling cold of Michigan. That's not Wayne smiling— his teeth are chattering. | Jane's friends and family celebrate her putting her shoes back on. Break out the Vernors and Captain Morgan! (Kathy, what are you doing to Freddy?) |
Cousin Gigi (second from right) is back in Michigan after a long sojourn in Arizona. This is her first time with the cousins in years. Now we're havin' fun, right Jim? | Larry and Barb's family was there to support Jon and the in-laws. Barb, what, you don't like Shelley's singing? |
Owosso's lowlife hang out at Jumbo's—here Jane gets a little frisky
while Jon ogles his sister-in-law. And Barry, get a room, will ya?
Dang, I think Barry did get a room. Never seen them smile like this before.
Jamie and Cherie enjoy tall glasses of sassparilla at the watering hole. | OK, I admit it. The photographer had onion rings, but Shelley, really, all you have to do is hold your breath a sec. |
| |
The family girls had some big events in their lives while we were there.
Jessie had her first dance recital at the Festival of Lights in Corunna. There she was on stage in front of half the town, and she was M-A-R-V-E-L-O-U-S! At left she strikes a dancer's classic pose while her secret admirer lovingly gazes on (methinks he likes Amazons). At right, she does a backward handstand—and we certainly hope that wasn't a fart we heard in the audience, though the look on the handler's face fairly screams "pass the cheese knife" if you know what I mean. (This must be fairly common among young women. If you look carefully at the girl on the far right, you'll see she ain't pickin' daisies.)
And what's a 16th birthday without a kiss (even if it is from the folks)?
Katie celebrates her sixteenth birthday at home with family and her friends (above). |
